Where is the Chantilly Writing Center located and what are your hours?The Chantilly Writing Center Blackboard Collaborate room can be accessed through the course titled "Chantilly Writing Center" in students' Blackboard accounts. Tutors are available to help from 3:15 P.M. to 4:15 P.M. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students may also request for an after school tutoring session in advance. Either email chswtngcntr@gmail.com to make an after-school appointment or fill out the form on the "Request a Virtual Tutoring Session" tab in the home page of the website.

Who are the tutors at the Chantilly Writing Center?The Chantilly Writing Center is composed of student tutors who are sophomores, juniors, and seniors at Chantilly High School. All tutors in the center were nominated by their teachers, required to undergo an extensive application process, and trained by the board members and sponspors once accepted. You may get to know them through the Meet the Staff page on the website.

What if I just have a quick question about my writing?You are still welcome to meet with a tutor. But if your question is grammar related, try consulting the Resources for Writers page, which contains helpful links to handouts and articles.

How can I become a tutor in the Chantilly Writing Center?Each year, Chantilly High School teachers nominate students in their classes to apply to become a tutor. If you are nominated, please attend the information session and complete each part of the application.

How do I make an appointment?To make an appointment, either email chswntgcntr@gmail.com or click on the "Request a Virtual Tutoring Session" tab in the Home page of the website. Students are also welcome to pop in during our office hours without any pre-arranged appointments.

Can I request a particular writing tutor?Yes, of course! To see who our tutors are and learn more about them, visit the Meet the Staff page.

What if I am late to my appointment or I miss it?You may still come in to attend the rest of your conference, but if you would to reschedule, you may email chswntgcntr@gmail.com.

What if no more tutors are available?If you come and no more tutors are available, you may speak with a board member or teacher advisor. We will try to immediately arrange a tutor for you or help you arrange an appointment for some other time.

What kind of writing can I bring to the Chantilly Writing Center?You may bring any kind of writing to the writing center. Our tutors will be able to help you with writing assignments from all subjects, including but not limited to English, History, Science, and World Languages. We can also help with your personal pieces of writing, college applications, and writing assignments for other classes (such as Creative Writing, Journalism, Debate, Model United Nations). During high-volume months, we give priority to academic assignments, but we also can provide assistance with application essays or personal writing projects.

What should I do if I need to reschedule?If you need to reschedule an appointment, please contact chswntgcntr@gmail.com.

Can I get help with writing in a language other than English (for example, an essay written in Spanish for my Spanish course)?"Yes, you may; however, make sure you check the Meet the Staff page before you come in for help with foreign language assignments to see if anyone is able to tutor in that subject or if any tutor is able to speak/read/write Spanish.

How will my tutor help me?The Writing Center tutors will help you by discussing your writing assignments with you and giving you strategies for approaching a certain topic or prompt, interpreting your teacher's comments, organizing your paper, and developing your own style. Upon request, tutors can also direct you to additional resources to help you with your writing. Tutors will not proofread your paper or write it for you.

Will my teacher know that I visited the Chantilly Writing Center?Yes. Whether or not you came to the Center because your teacher requested it, your teacher will be notified.

Does the Chantilly Writing Center have ESL resources?Yes, we do. We have a few links to resources for ESL students on our Resources for Writers page and all tutors are trained to work with ESL students.
